New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj on Saturday hit back at Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena for holding the AAP government responsible for the city's water crisis, alleging that it failed to recognize that the shortage was mainly due to Haryana-ruled the BJP blocked 100 MGD of water.

Bharadwaj also alleged that Saxena was functioning as a "BJP LG" and not the LG of Delhi.

However, Delhi's Urban Development Minister agreed with Saxena that governance needs a constant effort to achieve results for the people through consensus building.

"But we cannot understand why the Haryana Government does not apply the same criterion to the BJP-led Haryana Government despite being fully aware that the Haryana Government has been blocking more than 100 MGD of the share of water granted to it. corresponds to Delhi during the last few days. he said in a statement.

As a constitutional officer, blaming the ruling party in Delhi for playing politics while "turning a blind eye" to the harsh facts of drop in water supply to the city by the BJP-led Haryana government or the efforts of Arvind Kejriwal administration to modernize the national capital system. The water distribution network shows that Saxena is not functioning as the LG of Delhi but as a "BJP LG", Bharadwaj charged.

Delhi depends on Uttar Pradesh and Haryana for drinking water supply.

Citing data from Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Bharadwaj said the national capital was producing its full share of 1,005 MGD water till June 6.

"There was no water crisis in Delhi until June 6. However, water supply to Delhi started falling continuously after June 6, reaching 958 MGD on June 10 and a record low of 888 MGD on June 22. June," he said.

Bharadwaj said there is no reduction in the share of water that Uttar Pradesh supplies to Delhi. The entire shortfall of over 100 MGD is due to reduction in water supply by the Haryana government, he claimed.

"This is the real problem behind the current water crisis. Never in the history of Delhi, the Haryana government blocked its water supply in this way. However, the LG Government does not even acknowledge these concrete facts and data in his statement," the minister said. .

Bharadwaj said Saxena "conveniently ignored" the Kejriwal government's tremendous efforts to modernize Delhi's distribution system and prevent water losses in the last nine years.

He highlighted that to reduce leakage during transmission of water from Haryana to Delhi, DJB has spent around Rs 500 crore on construction of a lined canal which reduced the losses from 30 per cent to 5 per cent.

A total of 3,500 kilometers of old pipelines have been replaced in the last eight years (437 kilometers per year) and 7,300 kilometers of new pipelines have been installed in the last decade to stop illegal taps and water theft, Bharadwaj said.

He has also strengthened the Leak Detection Cell, he stated, adding that it has detected and repaired around 2,000 leaks in the last six months.

The minister said LG chose to raise the specter of leaks and the oil tanker mafia in his statement.

"If this is the cause of the current water crisis, was it not there before June 6, when there was no water crisis in Delhi? For the last two weeks, teams of Delhi Police, under the LG, have been constantly patrolling the water.
