Palakkad (Kerala), Wildlife officials said on Wednesday that a leopard was found trapped in a metal wire fence in a village on the edge of the forest near Kollankodu in North Kerala district.

The female leopard, estimated to be around four years old, was found trapped in a wire fence erected on the property of Unnikrishnan, a local resident.

Local people said that in recent months, the presence of leopards has been reported several times in this place and surrounding areas.

A forest official said the big cat was feared to have got stuck in the meta fence early Wednesday.

He said that it will be tranquilized and rescued and will soon be taken out of the area.

"The animal seems to be healthy. The veterinarian has been informed and will reach here soon," the officer said.

Rapid Response Team (RRT) was also on the way with the cage to shift the leopard.

The officer said that as soon as they reach the spot, the mission to tranquilize the animal will begin.

A large number of villagers gathered in the area to get a glimpse of the trapped leopard.
