Meerut (UP): A forest department team sedated and captured a leopard from a house here on Saturday after an eight-hour operation, officials said.

According to Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Rajesh Kumar, the department received information that at around 10 in the morning a leopard had entered a house in Kaserukheda locality of Cantt area of ​​the city.

On receiving the information, the police and forest department team reached the house located in a densely populated area. The DFO said a rescue operation was launched and the leopard was finally tranquilised and captured around 6:30 pm.

The leopard, which is male and about four years old, had entered the house of a man named Sameer, who lives in the area.

At that time, Sameer's two children Manku (8) and Veera (10) and his mother-in-law were present in a room of the house. According to the local people, they immediately closed the room after seeing the leopard, which later sat just outside the room.

Giving information about the operation, the DFO said that the house was covered with nets from all sides and a wall was broken to safely rescue the family trapped in the house. After taking out the family members, the team tranquilized the leopard.

Asked about reports of a leopard attacking a person in the area, the DFO said, "One person is said to be injured in the morning's incident, we are trying to find out about him."

DFO said that a completely healthy leopard will be released in the Shivalik range.
