Badaun (UP): An SUV belonging to Samajwadi Party district president Ashish Yadav allegedly hit the motorcycle of a lawyer here, police said on Monday, killing him.

Police said that Rakesh Singh (45) was returning to Badaun on Saturday night when his motorcycle was hit by an SUV. Police said that the victim was taken to the hospital, but he died on the way.

Police said that the incident took place near a petrol pump on Sahaswan Road in Muzaria police station area.

He said the number plate of the SUV recovered from the spot helped them identify the vehicle.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Alok Priyadarshi said, "The SUV owner has been identified as Ashish Yadav and investigation is underway."

Police said an FIR has been registered based on the complaint of the victim's brother Umesh Singh.

He said that an FIR has been registered at the Civil Lines police station under section 304 A (causing death by negligence) and section 279 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Some lawyers raised slogans against Yadav and alleged that the two-time MLA fled the spot after the accident.
