Newly elected Congress MP from Meerut (UP), Saharanpur, Imran Masood said on Monday that the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh has deteriorated and the government's threat of bulldozers is having no effect on criminals.

Lok Sabha MP reached Rasulpur Dhauladi here on Monday and met the family members in connection with the murder of a mango orchard contractor and his son in Ghaziabad.

Masood consoled the family of the deceased and said that he will stand by them to provide all possible help to the family.

Criticizing the BJP-led state government, he said, "The law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh has deteriorated. The government talks about bulldozers, but it has no effect on criminals."

He claimed that crime is at its peak in Uttar Pradesh at present.

Congress spokesperson Harikishan Ambedkar, who accompanied Masood, said the party would soon launch a movement against rising crimes in the state.

A 55-year-old mango orchard contractor and his son were allegedly shot dead, while his younger son sustained bullet injuries in Niwari area of ​​Ghaziabad district following a dispute over diversion of irrigation water.

The victims, hailing from Meerut, were identified as Pappu and his 26-year-old son Raja. Pappu's younger son Chand (22) was injured in the firing that took place on June 21, who is undergoing treatment.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rural) Vivek Chand Yadav, a case has been registered against seven people based on the complaint of the victim's family.

Yadav had earlier said that three accused - Bittu Tyagi, his brother Deepak Tyagi and their father Sudhir Tyagi - have been arrested and efforts are on to nab the others.
