New Delhi, Larsen & Toubro on Tuesday said it has received a 'significant' order from Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) for partial construction of two Fleet Support Ships (FSS).

Orders ranging from Rs 1,000 crore to Rs 2,500 crore are classified as 'critical' by the company.

"The Precision Engineering Systems business vertical of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has won a prestigious order for part construction of two Fleet Support Ships (FSS) from Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), with the Indian Navy being the end user of the ships." the company said in a filing to BSE.

The Indian Navy had signed a contract with HSL in August last year to design and build five FSS for the Indian Navy.

FSS are specialized naval ships that provide logistics and material support to naval task forces at sea. With a length of over 220 meters and a displacement of approximately 45,000 tonnes, the FSS will be one of the largest ships in the Indian Naval Fleet.

L&T will build two FSS at its greenfield shipyard at Kattupalli near Chennai on the east coast. It is the most modern shipyard in the country, designed in-house and built as per globally benchmarked technical practices.
