In New Delhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday reiterated his party's demand that the government must give confidence to the nation about the situation on the border with China.

Kharge shared a media report on armored vehicles at a key base in the region.

"How can China build a military base near Pangong Tso in a territory that was under Indian occupation until May 2020?" Kharge asked.

While there was no immediate reaction from the BJP or the Center on Kharge's position, the ruling party and the government have in the past rejected all allegations on the issue by the Congress. India has asserted to China the importance of achieving "complete disengagement" from the remaining areas in eastern Ladakh to restore peace and tranquility.

In his post, Kharge said, "Even as we enter the fifth year of 'CLEAN CHIT' given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Galwan, where our brave soldiers sacrificed their lives, China continues to infringe on our territorial integrity!"

“Just to recall, April 10, 2024, Prime Minister Modi, in an interview given to the foreign press, failed to forcefully state India's case on the world stage.

"April 13, 2024: EAM's statement that 'China has not occupied any of our lands' exposed the Modi govt's meek policy towards China!

"July 4, 2024: Although EAM meets with Chinese counterpart and says: 'Respecting LAC and ensuring peace and tranquility in border areas is essential,'" he said in X.

"China continues to be belligerent by occupying our territory and building a military base in Sirijap, a land supposedly under Indian control," Kharge said.

He alleged that the Modi government is responsible for "not maintaining the status quo ante at the Line of Actual Control".

"We have lost possession of 26 patrol points (PP) out of 65, including points in the Depsang Plains, Demchok and Gogra Hot Springs area," he alleged.

"The 'China Modi Ki Guarantee' continues as his government wears big 56-inch Chinese blinders on its 'Laal Aankh'!" Kharge said.

The Indian National Congress "once again reiterates its demand to give confidence to the nation on the border situation in the LAC," he said.

"We stand shoulder to shoulder with our brave soldiers," Kharge said.

The Indian and Chinese militaries have been in a stalemate since May 2020 in eastern Ladakh and a complete resolution of the border dispute is yet to be achieved, although the two sides have retreated from several friction points.

Ties between the two countries fell significantly following the fierce clash in the Galwan Valley in June 2020 that marked the most serious military conflict between the two sides in decades.

India has maintained that its ties with China cannot be normal unless there is peace in the border areas.

So far, the two sides have held 21 rounds of corps commander-level talks to resolve the standoff.
