A statement issued by Trinamool national spokesperson Derek O'Brien said that since he has been removed from the post of general secretary, media outlets should not consider his views as the party's views in future.

“Recently, Kunal Ghosh expressed views that do not match the party's vision. It is important to clarify that these are his personal opinions and should not be attributed to the party. “Only statements issued from the Trinamool Congress headquarters should be considered as the official position of the party,” the statement said.

Ghosh was also the state spokesperson of the party till recently. However, he resigned from that post but continued as the state general secretary.

Earlier on Wednesday, Ghosh had shared the stage with Roy, who left Trinamool to join the BJP earlier this year, during a blood donation camp held in south Kolkata, where he described Roy as an "ideal" candidate.

“As an elected public representative I have nothing new to say about Roy. He has always been in public service. His doors were always open for people. W wanted to keep him in the (Trinamool) family. But unfortunately we could not do so.

"Today he is the candidate of the opposition party. We will work for our part of the candidate, while Roy's supporters will work for him," Ghosh said.
