Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the state police department to adopt the technology for the mega event.

The Chief Minister said the scale of the event was expected to be unprecedented and therefore it was essential to create a benchmark in terms of safety, cleanliness and convenience.

“The Kumbh is an interface between the rich religious and cultural heritage of India and the world. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure safety, comfort and cleanliness at the event,” he said at a meeting of senior officials at his residence.

Stating that the mela will be an opportunity to boost brand UP and brand India, the Chief Minister told officials to hire professional agencies to organize the event and publicize it so that pilgrims and tourists from all over the world can come and become a part of history.

“The police department and other stakeholders must take advantage of technology to effectively manage crowds and prevent any untoward incidents. A detailed action and contingency plan must be developed. AI-based equipment and techniques should be used to monitor crowd density so that any potential cluster can be dispersed before the group disrupts order in any pocket,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that the Ganga and the Kalpvasis were the spirit of the Maha Kumbh and directed the officials to ensure that the mela was organized around the green theme.

He also said that concerned departments should ensure clean Ganga from Bijnor to Ballia.

Officials attending the meeting said that compared to 2019, when the Kumbh was spread over 3,200 hectares, Mela 2025 would be organized in an area of 4,000 hectares.

The Chief Minister also directed the police to train and sensitize staff for mela duty.

"They should be warm, soft-spoken and dignified, but at the same time affirmative in dealing with pilgrims and visitors," he said and also looked at the tourism department's projects that were taking shape in the wake of the mela.

"The corridor connecting Akshay Vat, Saraswati Koop and Patalpuri temple should be completed at the earliest and help may be sought from the Indian Army unit in Prayagraj to expedite the progress of the project," he said.

He also directed the organizers to ensure that proper arrangements are made for international VIP and VVIP guests.

The Urban Development Department said that more than 1.5 lakh toilets will be built on the land for the convenience of pilgrims. They added that more than 10,000 sanitation workers will be hired to ensure these toilets remain functional.
