New Delhi, JDS leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Tuesday took charge as the Union Minister of Heavy Industries.

64-year-old Kumaraswamy has also been given the charge of Steel Ministry.

“Today, I took charge as the Heavy Industries Minister. I don't want to say that I will do everything. I need some more time. I have to take all the information from senior officials about the problems and how we will solve them,” “I need two to three days for this,” Kumaraswamy told reporters after assuming charge.

After assuming charge as Union Minister, Kumaraswamy met senior officials of ministries and heads of public sector undertakings (PSUs).

The JD(S), headed by his father and former prime minister HD Deve Gowda, joined the NDA last year.

BJP and JDS had jointly contested the Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka, where there are a total of 28 seats. BJP won 17 seats and JDS won two seats.
