Churachandpur/Imphal, Thousands of people of Kuki-Zo community in Manipur's Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Tengnoupal districts on Monday held rallies demanding resolution and a separate administration for them in the violence-hit state.

He also opposed the cancellation of free movement arrangements with neighboring Myanmar.

The central government in February decided to fence more than 1,600 km of the India-Myanmar border in the north-east and end the free movement regime.

Four northeastern states – Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya and Nagaland – share borders with Myanmar.

After the rally, a memorandum demanding a political solution for the Kuki-Zo community was submitted to Union Home Minister Amit Shah through Churachandpur Deputy Commissioner Dharun Kumar.

Organized by the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF), the participants raised slogans like "No political solution, no peace" as they marched to the Peace Ground, located about 3 km from the public ground in Churachandpur district.

BJP MLA from Sakot Paolinlal Haokip stressed that for lasting peace, the government should be directly involved in resolving the issues.

"We have consistently sought peace through various central channels, yet it remains elusive," he said.

Simultaneously, in Kangpokpi District, the Committee of Tribal Unity (COTU) held a rally at Thomas Ground, where participants from across the district displayed banners advocating a "political solution" for the Kuki-Zo people.

Security measures were tightened in both the districts as central and state forces were deployed at key points to prevent any untoward incident during the rally.

Additionally, a similar rally was organized by Kuki Impi Tengnoupal in Tengnoupal district.
