Hyderabad: Union Minister and Telangana BJP president G Kishan Reddy on Wednesday expressed strong objection to the Congress government's decision to invite its top leader Sonia Gandhi for the proposed state Foundation Day celebrations on June 2.

Speaking to ideologues, he said that during the Telangana movement in 1969, when Congress was in power, 369 students were killed in police firing.

He said that during the second phase of the Telangana statehood movement, around 1,500 youth sacrificed their lives and all the people of Telangana came out on the streets for a separate state.

Now after 10 years, Congress is in power in Telangana and they are saying that they will invite and felicitate Sonia Gandhi, Kishan Reddy said that she is the one who gave a separate state to the people of Telangana.

Kishan Reddy said, “Sonia Gandhi did not give Telangana…it (Telangana statehood) was achieved by the people of Telangana. It is the people of Telangana who made sacrifices and took part in the movement (for separate Telangana).”

Kishan Reddy wanted to know from the Congress government how it can invite any political leader to a government function.

"...She is a leader of the Congress party. How can you invite her to a government function? If you want to invite her, invite her to the Congress party office and greet her. We have no objection to it." " He said.

He demanded that the Congress government give an explanation to the people about inviting Sonia Gandhi for the official function.

After the Cabinet meeting on May 20, the Telangana government said it has decided to invite Sonia Gandhi for the state Foundation Day celebrations on June 2.

Responding to a question on Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara's statement that the Center is yet to respond to Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna's request to cancel his diplomatic passport, Kishan Reddy asserted that "it is completely wrong".

“Congress is in power in Karnataka and whether it is (Prajwal) Revanna or whoever I am, they have to take action. But the Congress government is not taking action and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar is deliberately trying to avoid the matter," he claimed.

He demanded a CBI inquiry into the case against Prajwal Revanna, alleging that the Congress government in Karnataka state was not investigating it properly.

"The case should be handed over to the CBI and the Center will take necessary action," he said.

Parameshwara on Wednesday said the Center has not responded to a request to cancel the diplomatic passport of Prajwal Revanna on the basis of the arrest warrant issued against him by a court. The Karnataka minister had said it was the Centre's duty to provide assistance within the ambit of law by canceling diplomatic passports.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the state government to probe allegations of serial sexual abuse against the MP had written to the Ministry of External Affairs to cancel his diplomatic passport.

Prajwal, 33, who is the grandson of JD(S) patriarch and former Prime Minister D Deve Gowda and is the NDA candidate from Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, faces multiple allegations of sexual misconduct with women.

Prajwal reportedly left for Germany on April 27, a day after Hasan's voting and is still absconding. Following the SIT's request through the Central Bureau of Investigation, a Blue Corner Notice seeking information about his whereabouts has already been issued by Interpol.
