A special team of Kerala Police led by DSP is in Coimbatore and Pollachi areas of Tamil Nadu after Sabit Nassar (30), the main accused in the kidney racket, revealed his Tamil Nadu connections to the investigation team.

IANS had earlier reported that Tamil Nadu Police has detained some people who were directly linked to Sabit, the key accused in the Kerala kidney racket.

Following information received from central intelligence agencies, Kerala Police arrested Nassar on May 19 as soon as he returned from Iran. When interrogated he revealed that he was involved in organ trade and had taken twenty people to Iran for kidney transplant in exchange for money.

He also told interrogators that he had received Rs 5 lakh for each kidney transplant and he had transferred around Rs 10 lakh to each donor. However, sources in the investigation team told IANS that the amount received by Sabith and his associates was huge and more people, including a Keralite doctor from Iran, were involved in the racket.

The Kerala Police team in Tamil Nadu will thoroughly investigate the contacts of accused Sabit Nassar and interrogate some people who are already in the custody of Tamil Nadu SIT.

During the initial days of questioning, Sabit had revealed that people from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and some North Indian states were taken to Iran as organ donors, while he remained silent on the Tamil Nadu connection.

Police teams of both the states are jointly investigating how many people were taken from Tamil Nadu to Iran for kidney trade and how much money was transferred.
