Guwahati, Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday emphasized collective efforts for a sustainable future along with advancing the growth of the power sector in the northeastern region.

Chairing a meeting of energy ministers of the region in Guwahati, the minister highlighted the collective efforts.

"He chaired the important Energy Ministers Conference (North East Region) in Guwahati today. During the session, he highlighted the importance of collective efforts towards a more promising and sustainable future along with advancing the growth of the energy sector in the North East region" Khattar wrote in a post on X.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, also in a post on the microblogging site, wrote: "Had an extremely fruitful discussion with Hon'ble Union Minister Shri @mlkhattar ji during his first visit to Assam after taking charge The charge".

He said the state has sought "assistance to help rationalize gas prices to meet Assam's growing power demand. The state's peak power demand has already crossed 2,500 MW."

Sarma apprised the Union Power minister about the rising demand for PMAY (U) houses as the state has already delivered more than 60 per cent of the sanctioned 1.7 lakh houses.

"We shared our plans to achieve saturation of drinking water supply in urban areas by constructing the Guwahati river front and developing a new satellite township on G20 principles near Guwahati. We also deliberated on the possibility of establishing a Center of Excellence for Urban Planning in the State". published the CM.
