New Delhi, Union Energy Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesday requested the Chhattisgarh government not to impose cess on hydropower and pumped storage projects in the state, an official statement said on Wednesday.

In a meeting with Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai in Raipur, the minister asked the state government to expeditiously resolve issues related to NTPC's projects in the state, which are conceptualized or under development, and focus on land acquisition. And the power ministry said issues related to mining leases in connection with development of captive coal blocks.

"The Minister has requested the State Government not to levy any cess on hydroelectric projects and pumped storage projects as such charges increase the tariff for consumers. He advised that the State, though AT&C losses are below the national average. is close, the ministry should further try to reduce it to less than 10 per cent."

During the meeting, Khattar also reviewed the progress of the Revised Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) in the state.
