New Delhi, The Ministry of Food and Consumer Affairs on Sunday said Khadi Natural Emulsion and Distemper Paints have been certified as conforming to Indian Standards by government quality assurance body National Test House (NTH).

Extensive testing conducted by NTH has confirmed that the emulsion paint meets the stringent BIS 15489:2013 standards, while the distemper paint complies with BIS 428:2013 standards, the ministry said in a statement.

The paints manufactured by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) passed the tests of application properties, thinning, drying time and finish.

The ministry said the paints dried in less than four hours and gave a smooth, uniform finish. He said the products are available in white base which can be colored in other colours.

Without giving comparative figures, the statement said that more than 3,00,000 liters of paint and distemper were sold last year.

KVIC, a statutory body, promotes village-based industries. Khadi refers to hand-spun and hand-woven natural fibre.

Consumers are showing increasing interest in eco-friendly products like paints, which KVIC describes as natural and sustainable.
