New Delhi: A fresh vacancy was created in the Rajya Sabha on Friday when House Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar accepted the resignation of K Keshav Rao, who had given up his membership as BRS MP after joining the Congress.

Rao was a Rajya Sabha member of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) from Telangana since 2020.

He joined the Congress on Wednesday and resigned from the membership of the Upper House of Parliament on Thursday.

Official sources said Dhankhar accepted his resignation on Friday, following which his seat in the Rajya Sabha became vacant.

With Rao's resignation, 16 seats have become vacant in the House.

According to the latest data, earlier, 15 seats in the Rajya Sabha were vacant - four from Jammu and Kashmir, three from Maharashtra, two each from Assam and Bihar and one each from Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Tripura. ,
