Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala Assembly on Wednesday expressed its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the fire incident in Kuwait in which around 50 people, including 24 Keralites, died.

Assembly Speaker AN Shamseer, while reading the condolence message in the Assembly, said that the House joins in the grief of the families who have lost their loved ones in the incident.

Saying that migrants contribute to the progress and advancement of our country to a great extent, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan noted how they are helping their families and the country brighten their future by overcoming challenges such as the global financial crisis, wars and changing immigration laws. Work hard to do. "It is unfortunate that many of them died in the fire before they could fulfill their family's dreams," he said.

Vijayan also raised the issue of the Center not allowing state Health Minister Veena George to visit Kuwait last week to coordinate relief efforts.He said that despite such stand of the Centre, the State Government joined hands with the Central Government in coordinating activities to bring back the bodies of the deceased and ensure timely treatment for the injured.

Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly V D Satheesan also expressed condolences and recalled the grief of the family members who had reached Cochin International Airport to collect the mortal remains of their loved ones.

He also lodged a strong protest against the Centre's decision of not granting clearance to Minister George to visit Kuwait.

On July 12, a massive fire broke out in a seven-storey building in Mangaf city of Ahmadi, in the southern Kuwait governorate, killing 50 people, including 46 Indians.

According to Kuwaiti authorities, the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit in the guard's room on the ground floor of the building.The building was home to 196 migrant workers, mostly Indians.
