Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala's caravan tourism project is going from strength to strength receiving positive response from stakeholders, the state tourism department said on Monday.

In a demonstration of the government's commitment towards the caravan tourism project 'Keravan Kerala', the department highlighted the allocation of Rs 3.1 crore in Budget 2024-25.

This investment underlines the importance of the project, it said in a statement.

The tourism department issued the statement amid ongoing reports in some media outlets regarding its alleged failure.

As part of the project, the government has provided Rs 97 lakh as subsidy to 13 entrepreneurs who have signed contracts with the tourism department to purchase caravans, the statement said.

Right from the beginning, the response to the project from stakeholders has been extremely encouraging. Biju said, suggestions from his side have been adjusted to make the policy more feasible, sustainable and inclusive.

He said channels of communication with stakeholders are live and they are free to engage with officials without waiting for formal meetings.
