Incidentally, the Pinarayi Vijayan-led campaign had a poor performance as it managed to win only one seat out of 20 Lok Sabha seats and in the bargain, the CPI did not win a single seat for the second consecutive general election.

The CPI contests four seats and last won a Lok Sabha seat in the state in 2014.

CPI state secretary Binoy Viswan was the first top leader to say nothing about the defeat and said that the CPI-M and the way they run affairs needs to be fixed.

Jayarajan and the way he has been conducting himself, especially disclosing the information that veteran BJP leader Prakash Javadekar had come to meet him in the state capital, have come under criticism.

The CPI concluded that Jayarajan would have to go. Vijayan also came under criticism for his manner of conduct in public.

Meanwhile, the CPI's Thrissur unit suspected that the sole BJP candidate, actor-turned-politician Suresh Gopi and his top leader V.S. There was something wrong in Sunil Kumar's victory.

The CPI leadership meeting will end on Wednesday and they are going to express their displeasure about things in the next Left Democratic Front meeting.
