Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday said the anarchy caused by neo-liberal capitalism is the main reason for increasing drug consumption in the society and called for an end to this "highly competitive and exploitative" system.

Delivering his message on “World Drug Day” today, the CM said it reminds the society of the importance of strengthening measures to curb the social menace of drug abuse.

He said, with an aim to prevent drug abuse in the state, the state government is organizing several awareness programs including “Vimukti”, “No-To-Drugs” etc. under the leadership of the State Excise Department.

"Drug consumption is on the rise due to the chaos created by hyper-competitive and exploitative neoliberal capitalism. This system of exploitation and the sense of insecurity that surrounds it must be ended," Vijayan said in a Facebook post.

CM also said that on this World Drug Day, liberation movements should be given direction to imagine an exploitation-free world.
