Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan admitted in the state Assembly on Wednesday that there have been repeated incidents of bomb blasts in some areas of the northern district of Kannur and said the police will investigate there more strictly.

Vijayan said this while rejecting the Congress-led UDF opposition's demand for adjournment of the House and discussing the issue of repeated incidents of bomb blasts in Kannur district.

Claiming that a peaceful atmosphere prevailed in Kannur, the CM said the police were taking strict steps, including inspections, to prevent the manufacture of explosives.

He said, “The government is looking at the recent incident and similar cases very seriously and the police have been directed to take strict action. Do not try to give a political color to this.,

He said a case of unnatural death has been registered under the Explosive Substances Act in connection with the death of an 86-year-old man in the bomb blast in Thalassery on Tuesday and the matter is being seriously investigated by the police.

“Therefore, there is no need to adjourn the House proceedings to discuss this issue,” the CM said. And based on the clarification given by Vijayan, the Speaker refused to allow the opposition's adjournment motion.

The UDF opposition staged a walkout protesting against not being allowed to adjourn the House.

Leader of Opposition in the state assembly V D Satheesan said bomb making was being "encouraged and sponsored" by the ruling Left in Kerala.

He said this is clear from the fact that party workers who died while making bombs are being honored as martyrs."People of all ages, including children, have been killed and maimed in bomb blasts. I urge you to give up your weapons, including bombs, and fight on the basis of ideology."

"This government, along with the police, is promoting the activities of criminals and bomb making," he alleged.

Deputy leader of opposition PK Kunhalikutty said the situation in the state has gone out of the control of the ruling Left parties.

The adjournment notice was given by several UDF MLAs, including Sunny Joseph, who argued that despite repeated incidents of bomb blasts, the CM always said that the police were investigating.Citing various examples of people being seriously injured or dying in bomb blasts in Kannur district over the past few years, he claimed, "But these incidents keep repeating."

Rejecting the opposition's allegations, Vijayan said the government is looking at all such cases very seriously and the police have been directed to trace the source of the explosives.

He said that the recent bomb blast in Panur area of Kannur district has been thoroughly investigated and 15 culprits have been arrested and legal action has been taken against them.

On April 5, a homemade bomb exploded in Panur, killing one person and injuring three others, intensifying political turmoil in the state ahead of the Lok Sabha elections on April 26.

The CM said that the police are taking strict steps and conducting inspections to stop the manufacturing of explosives.

“Necessary legal action is being taken by conducting regular raids at various places including mines to prevent and detect illegal manufacturing and storage of arms and ammunition.Vijayan claimed, "In addition, extensive vehicle checking and patrolling is being done by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and Dog Squad. The government has taken stringent measures to prevent any activity aimed at disrupting the peaceful atmosphere in the state." Are."

He also said that the state police chief has been directed to take strict action against those misusing ammunition and explosive materials for making bombs.

On Tuesday, 86-year-old Velayudhan died in an explosion when he picked up a bomb and tried to open it, which he found at a deserted property near Thalassery, where he had gone to collect coconuts, police said.
