An official said surveillance has been increased in Anaikatti, Gopalapuram and Walayar areas.

"There are 12 police officers deployed at each check post in these areas. Any vehicle reaching Tamil Nadu is being thoroughly searched," the official said.

Animal husbandry officials in Tamil Nadu told IANS that whenever bird flu cases are reported from neighboring states, the department increases vigilance.



Officials said veterinary doctors and paramedic team members are also part of the search teams at the state borders.



No vehicle loaded with poultry and animals is allowed to cross the check post.



An official said that the state government is not taking any risk and I am sanitizing all vehicles entering Tamil Nadu from Kerala.



He also said that there are 1252 poultry farms in Coimbatore district bordering Kerala. The official said that due to such a large number of poultry farms in the district, the department is taking extra precautions to prevent any outbreak in the state.



The Kerala Health Department has killed 21,000 ducks in two panchayats (Edathua and Cheruthuna) in Alappuzha district and also domestic birds within a radius of one kilometer of these two panchayats.
