The protest has been called after the government has constituted a committee to hold a public hearing on the issue and it will begin its work from July 19.

The decision to increase these fees was taken by the Pinarayi Vijayan government and the BCK in a circular has asked practicing advocates to protest the decision by wearing black badges during court hours on July 11.

"The concerns expressed by the office bearers of the Advocates Associations were collected and presented by the Kerala Bar Council before the Justice Mohanan Commission. The Bar Council and all the Bar Associations in the State of Kerala demand that this decision be withdrawn. The Kerala government has not increased the fees in this area for the last two decades and the new fee for filing a case regarding property in family matters has been increased from Rs 50 to Rs 2 lakh and similarly for cases under the NI Act. Fees have also been increased. It has increased from Rs 10 to Rs 3 lakh.
