Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri temples in Dehradun, Uttarakhand will be opened for devotees on Friday after remaining closed during winter.

The famous temples located in the Garhwal Himalayas are closed every year with the onset of winter as they remain covered with snow during this period and reopen with the onset of summer.

Temple committee officials said Kedarnath and Yamunotri temples will be opened at 7 am and Gangotra temple will be opened at 12.20 pm.

Badrinath, which is also a part of Uttarakhand's 'Chardham Yatra', will be opened at 6 am on May 12.

Harish Gaur, media in-charge of Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC), said that Kedarnath is being decorated with 20 quintals of flowers.

He said the Panchmukhi idol of Baba Kedar, which is being taken to Kedarnath from its winter residence Omkareshwar temple in Ukhimath, has left Gaurikund - the last stop on its return to Kedarnath, where it will be re-interred inside the temple amid elaborate rituals. will be installed. ,

Gaur said the idol will be worshiped before opening the doors for devotees.

The idol is carried every year by barefoot BKTC volunteers on their shoulders from Ukhimath to Kedarnath.

Gaur said that devotees from across the country as well as from abroad are part of the procession.

Meanwhile, 135 vehicles carrying 4,050 Chardham pilgrims were dispatched from Rishikesh to the Himalayan temples on Thursday.

Giving the green signal, Cabinet Minister Premchand Aggarwal said that a record number of pilgrims will come to Chardham this year.
