VMP Tirunelveli (Tamil Nadu) [India], May 31: One of the leading multi-specialty healthcare hospital chains in India, Cauvery Hospitals has always been at the forefront of medical treatment, technology and services. Ingestion of foreign objects is a common problem in very young children, sometimes sharp objects like coins, needles, toothpicks or open safety pins accidentally enter their body, causing an emergency. Two days ago, a 3-year-old little boy from Kovilpatti was admitted to the hospital. Opd at Tirunelveli Cauvery Hospital with a complaint of swallowing a safety pin, the child was examined and X-ray revealed that the swallowed pin was present in the stomach. Since it was a sharp object, it was necessary for me to remove it immediately. But the child had eaten food after swallowing the pin, so the process of removing the pin could not be done immediately and had to wait for 5 hours. After 5 hours the child was taken for endoscopy. A team of anesthetists and nurses safely performed the endoscopy and easily removed the exposed safety pins without causing any damage to the intestine, esophagus or stomach. After endoscopy the child became normal and was discharged the very next day. Talking about this, interventional gastroenterologist hepatologist Dr. A. Shafiq said, “Young children, especially infants, toddlers and preschoolers, are curious by nature and this curiosity can take them further. Dangerous situations can arise when they accidentally swallow something that is not meant for them. They don't make any sense." To eat. In such a situation it is best to go to the nearest hospital without any delay, so that immediate action can be taken. I am very grateful and really appreciate the efforts of the anesthetist and the team of nurses who supported me in this case. Thanks to Dr. A. Lakshmanan, the medical administrator of the hospital, for his successful handling of the case.
