KATHMANDU: Kailash Sirohiya, chairman of Nepal's top media house Kathmandu Post, who was arrested earlier this week on charges of misuse of citizenship certificate, has been sent to three-day custody.

A single bench headed by Dhanusha district court judge Churamani Khadka re-issued the order on Wednesday after the police produced him in the court and sought his remand to investigate the case related to the citizenship certificate.

During the hearing, district attorney Sudip Kumar Dangal argued on behalf of the Nepal government, while senior advocate duo Kishore Lal and Binod Kumar Sharma and lawyer duo Sudip Kumar Koirala, Raman Kumar Karna and Kishore Paude argued on behalf of respondent Sirohia.

A police team led by Senior Superintendent Sanuram Bhattarai of the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office arrested Sirohiya on Tuesday from his office at Kantipur Prakashan headquarters in Thapathali, Kathmandu.

Sirohiya was then taken to Dhanusha, where Indraji Mahato of Sarlahi district lodged a complaint at the Dhanusha district police office on 28 April.

After this Sirohiya was produced before the District Attorney's Office and Dhanusha District Court. Mahato accused Sirohiya of using dual citizenship cards and demanded that the crime be investigated as per the Citizenship Act 2006.

However, Sirohiya rejected the allegations and said that Home Minister Ravi Lamichhane, who is allegedly involved in the cooperative fund misuse scam, took revenge on him for publishing news reports about the scam in Kathmandu Post and Kantipur daily newspapers. have taken.

Sirohiya is the chairman of Kantipur Media Group, which publishes the Kathmandu Post and Kantipur Daily newspapers.
