New Delhi, President Draupadi Murmu on Thursday highlighted the huge voting percentage in Jammu and Kashmir in the Lok Sabha elections and said Kashmir has given a befitting reply to India's enemies by breaking voting records of several decades.

Addressing the joint meeting of both the Houses of Parliament after the formation of the 18th Lok Sabha, Murmu also said that the Constitution has been fully implemented in Jammu and Kashmir, where earlier things were different due to Article 370.

Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, was abrogated by the Center on August 5, 2019, and the erstwhile state was divided into two union territories - Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

He said, “A very pleasant aspect of this election emerged from Jammu and Kashmir.

Kashmir Valley broke all the records of voting percentage for many decades. Over the last four decades, we have seen low turnout amid bandhs and strikes in Kashmir.

"India's enemies continued to spread false propaganda on global platforms,

This is being presented as the opinion of Jammu and Kashmir. But this time, the Kashmir Valley has given a befitting reply to every such element within and outside the country,” the President said.

According to the Election Commission, three seats in the Kashmir Valley - Srinagar (38.49 per cent), Baramulla (59.1 per cent) and Anantnag-Rajouri (53 per cent) - saw the highest turnout "in several decades". Recent Lok Sabha elections.
