Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed an unprecedented influx of tourists in the last few years, with an annual growth of 300 per cent in foreign arrivals, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said here on Wednesday.

Addressing the 'Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Conclave' at SKICC here, Sinha said this inflow is a result of the administration's policies and incentives given to the industry.

“We have seen unprecedented growth post the Covid pandemic and almost 300 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) growth in foreign tourists.

“More effort and focus was given to new policies, conducive environment, incentives for the tourism industry and new experiences and value creation for year-round employment,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

He called for strategic collaboration between the administration, community and travel industry to enhance the tourist experience.

He also urged experts and industry leaders to explore the potential of adventure, border and heritage tourism, offbeat destinations, golf, bird-watching and agri-tourism in the Union Territory.

He said that destination weddings can also become a major driver for the development of Jammu and Kashmir's tourism sector.

Sinha said, Bollywood has returned to the valley after decades.

During the two-day conference, the participants will deliberate on strategies to promote sustainable tourism in Jammu and Kashmir.

Prominent personalities from the film industry including Imtiaz Ali, Vishal Bhardwaj, Kabir Khan and Sanjay Suri are participating in the conference.
