It took a lot of time for Kartik to physically transform for the biopic directed by Kabir Khan.

In conversation with IANS, Kartik talked about why he chose this as his first biopic, whether the change was tiring, and more.

The actor, who is known for his work in 'Pyaar Ka Punchnama', said, "In terms of physicality, it took a lot of time. At that time, I started shooting for 'Freddy' and 'Satyaprem Ki Katha'. So there was no need for materialism, so it was my habit, I was eating anything and everything without any restriction."But Sattu's character in 'Satyprem Ki Katha' was different from playing a character like Murlikant sir, because it is a real-life story, goals, dreams. It was very new to me. There was another dialect. He had a Marathi dialect. For all these things, with his thought process, Kabir sir helped me because he had spent time with Murali sir,” said Kartik.

Karthik told that he used to follow Kabir Khan blindly. He said, "I followed him like a student. And I would like to say that this is 'before Chandu' and 'after Chandu' for me. This film has brought a huge change in me and in my life." ,

On whether the change had any impact on him mentally, Kartik shared, "This whole process was kind of terrifying. As I said I am a very fond of food, so for me, after eating food, rice, Not sweet...wanted all these things...all my hobbies were removed. My sleep patterns were very poor before, so when we started this, I had to get a proper eight hours of deep sleep.'

He further said, "I started counting calories, burning calories, so there was an automatic change... My life became robotic and monotonous. Because I used to eat the same kind of food. For 1.5 to 2 years I kept drinking soup " Night and sleep and no social life, I used to go to my house, gym, swimming pool and then return to my house.,

"I used to attend workshops that had reading sessions, so for the last two years, I have done nothing else in my life except live this monotonous life. It changed my life, and changed a lot of things. , not only in terms of physicality but also in terms of thought processes. Now, I have become accustomed to a lot of things that I am following and that lifestyle will stay with me," said Karthik.

Why did you choose Petkar's story as your first biopic?

Karthik said, "I think the story chose me. Sadly, I didn't know about this story. And I think many people don't know the real story of Murlikant Petkar. When I heard it for the first time, I thought it was surreal."

"When Kabir sir narrated the story, my first reaction was? And it was all the facts. To me, it was amazing that so many achievements of one man, such a great story every child should know. So I was just into it. ."I took it as a responsibility also," said the 'Shehzada' fame actor.

Kartik shared that the film's tagline "The Man Who Refused to Surrender" automatically raised the curiosity to know more about him.

"It became a multi-genre film, because for me there was a lot of suspense about what was going to happen next. Because when you usually do a film or a biopic, you know the story. But here it A story is a person that most people don't know about, so more than the story choosing me, the story chose me,” said Karthik.'Chandu Champion' is jointly produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and Kabir Khan.
