Gurugram, Haryana BJP spokesperson Suraj Pal Amu, who is also the president of Karni Sena, resigned from the party on Thursday over the selection of election candidate in Gujarat.

Amu, who had sparked controversy with his remarks against the film 'Padmaavat' in 2018, sent his resignation to BJP president JP Nadda.

In his resignation letter, he said that giving a party ticket in Gujarat to a candidate who made "shameful remarks" on women was being seen as an insult to the entire Kshatriya community.

He was apparently referring to BJP candidate from Rajkot Lok Sabha constituency and Union Minister Parshottam Rupala, who had sparked controversy by claiming that the erstwhile 'Maharajas' had succumbed to the oppression of foreign rulers and the British and He even married his daughters to him.

Rupala later apologized for her remarks.

Amu had also resigned from the primary membership of BJP in 2018, but his resignation was rejected.

Amu has an old relationship with BJP. From 1990-91 he was the Mandal President of BJP Yuva Morcha, Sohna. From 1993–96, he served as the district general secretary of the BJP Yuva Morcha. He was working as the state spokesperson of BJP since 2018.
