Hassan (Karnataka) [India], Thousands of people on Thursday participated in the 'Hassan Chalo' protest organized by the Union of Karnataka People's Movement in Hassan district, demanding the arrest of suspended Janata Dal (Secular) M Prajwal Revanna. Alleged obscene video case The protesters demanded that the suspended JD(S) MP be arrested upon his arrival at the Bengaluru airport on May 31. The protest saw the participation of around 10,000 representatives of 11 organizations from different parts of the state. The procession started from Hemavati statue of Hasan and an open meeting was held at New Bus Stand Road near District Collector Office, CPM leader Subhashini Ali, Janwadi Mahila Sangathan president Meenakshi Bali, writer Banu Mushtaq, Roop Hasan and representatives of various organizations. Many sections of people participated. Various organizations including women farmers, students, gender minorities, litterateurs, intellectuals, artists and retired government officials participated in the protest rally against sexual exploitation of women from Bengaluru, Mysore, Hassan, Mangaluru, Mandya and Chikkamagaluru.Said that since the discussion has taken place, those distributing pen drives should be arrested for auctioning the honor of women. It was therefore decided to organize Hasan Chalo demanding the arrest of Prajwal and action against those distributing the pen drives, he said, adding that organizations were asked not to bring their own banners and flags. The union prepared a flag and pamphlet. A poster campaign was also launched on social media in this regard.
Visuals from the protest showed protesters holding posters and raising slogans, demanding that Hassan MP be sent to jail, Revanna booked under a probe set up by the Karnataka government on charges of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation following a complaint by a woman. He is facing investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT). Earlier on Wednesday, Revanna had filed a petition for anticipatory bail as he is scheduled to return to India on Friday. Revanna's anticipatory bail plea was filed hours after the SIT arrested two key accused in connection with the case.Those arrested have been identified as Naveen Gowda and Chetan, police said on Wednesday. According to police sources, the accused were arrested when they appeared in the High Court seeking anticipatory bail. The arrested Chetan Gowda and Naveen Gowda had allegedly distributed pen drives containing videos of Prajwal Revanna sexually assaulting women. Prajwal Revanna, in a self-made video released on May 27, had said that he would appear before the SIT on May 31 for questioning. Revanna said his visit was pre-planned as there was no case against him when Karnataka went to the polls for the general elections on April 26. He also alleged a political conspiracy against him as he was "rising in politics.According to officials, Revanna's location is still unknown and he is believed to be in Germany. Earlier in the day, Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge had said that as soon as Prajwal Revanna lands, he will be sent to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday. SAI spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal will be taken into custody. Action has been initiated to cancel the diplomatic passport of suspended Janata Dal-Secular MP Prajwal Revanna, he said, adding that the show cause issued to him was on May 23. "The Ministry of External Affairs has initiated action for revocation under the provisions of the Passport Act, 1967" regarding Prajwal Revanna's diplomatic passport.A show cause notice was issued to the passport holder on May 23, giving him 10 working days to respond to our notice. We are waiting for his response and accordingly, we will take things forward after hearing from him or once the 10-day period is over,” H said.
