The girl's father has filed a fresh complaint with the Mangaluru Police Commissioner alleging that his college-going daughter was kidnapped by youths and converted to Islam.

VHP has alleged that this is a case of 'love jihad'.

According to the police, the girl was studying in a private college in Mangaluru and her parents had recently filed a missing complaint at the Pandeshwar police station after they got in touch with her.

Police traced the missing girl and found that she was with a man named Mohammad Ashfaq.

Police investigated his background and found that he was already married and had eight criminal cases registered against him at Vidyanagar police station in the neighboring city of Kasaragod in Kerala.

Senior VHP leader Sharan Pumpwell alleged that 'love jihad' is becoming rampant in coastal Karnataka and the Hindu community needs to wake up.

Police said they will record the woman's statement and investigate the case to find out whether she was forced to go with the man or she went of her own free will.

More information is yet to be revealed regarding the incident.
