The deceased girl, identified as Meenakshi, was the daughter of a couple, Nagesh and Chittemma, living in Ambedkar Layout in Yadgir town. According to the police, the accused minor girl lived in a neighboring house and had fallen in love with the child's uncle Yallappa.

When the accused expressed his feelings to Yalappa, she rejected him. But the accused girl kept proposing him. Angered by Yalappa's rejection, the minor girl took the child on June 6 when no one was around and threw her in the well.

Later, when the family started searching for the child, the accused raised suspicion on Yallappa. He also searched for the child along with the family members and suggested them to look in the well.

Yadgir City Police, who investigated, uncovered the case and detained the minor girl after interrogating her. The accused confessed to committing the crime because she was in love with the child's uncle and he had rejected her.
