BENGALURU: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday said an appeal will be filed against the state's Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) direction to release one tmcft of Cauvery river water daily to Tamil Nadu by the end of this month.

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who is also the Water Resources Minister, after meeting with ministers and officials of the Cauvery river basin region, also said that an all-party meeting will be held on July 14 to decide on the next strategy for the state. course of action.

“Despite forecast of normal rainfall this time, there is a 28 per cent shortfall in inflow so far. We had clearly stated this in our stand before the CWRC. Also, we had requested for no decision to be taken till the end of July " Yet CWRC has asked to release one tmcft of water every day from July 12,” Siddaramaiah said.

He said that in today's meeting it was decided that the government should file an appeal against this order before the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA).

"All parties are together on the Karnataka water issue. Therefore, there will be an all-party meeting (on July 14)," the Chief Minister said.

Union ministers, state Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members and MLAs from the Cauvery river basin region will also be invited to the meeting, he said, adding that the government will take everyone into confidence and decide its next step.

Siddaramaiah said 5000 cusecs of water is being released to Tamil Nadu at Biligundlu, which is equal to the flow of Kabini dam.

A total of only 60 tmcft of water is available in all the four reservoirs of the Cauvery basin in the state, he said, adding, "We need to provide water for agricultural activities also. Therefore, keeping in mind the low rainfall, we have “Requested to wait till the end of.”
