Neha Hiremath, 23, died on Thursday after she refused to marry a man she was in a relationship with who attacked her with a knife multiple times.

The police department is on high alert and security has been increased across the city.

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has announced a bandh in all the colleges of Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation.

Hindu Jagran Vedike, Shri Ram Sena and Vishwa Hindu Parishad have declared their support and called for protests in Belagavi city.

Sources said that after the body of Neha Hiremath, who belongs to the Lingaya community, is handed over to the family, it will be taken in a procession for three kilometers before being cremated at the Veerashaiva-Jangma Buriya grounds.Union Parliamentary Affairs, Mines and Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi on Friday said that Neha Hiremath stabbed her nine times after she refused to marry a Muslim youth.

He said, “These tragedies are happening due to appeasement and promotion of anti-social elements during the tenure of the Congress government. If Congress does not initiate action, the society will protest,” Joshi said.

Meanwhile, Karnataka BJP took to social media to question the Congress government and asked how many more Hindus it wants to kill for appeasement politics.

“The aim of governance is despotism.Law and order has disappeared. This has become the guiding principle of the Congress government. Mr CM Siddaramaiah, as a result of your appeasement politics, one Faiyaz had stabbed Neha Hiremath to death in BVB College, Hubli,” the BJP said.

“You have to answer how many more Hindu lives do you want to sacrifice for the politics of appeasement?” BJP asked the question.

Meanwhile, Minister Siddaramaiah has expressed grief over the incident. “I condole the demise of Neha Hiremath, daughter of Niranja Hiremath, member, Hubli-Dharwad City Corporation. Murder is condemnable. One accused has already been arrested in connection with the incident. I have directed the police chief to conduct a strict investigation to ensure maximum punishment to the accused.,

Appealing for peace, CM Siddaramaiah said, "No one should get agitated over the incident and should not take law into their own hands or disturb peace." It is your duty to get justice for the girl. The police department will make every possible effort in this regard.

Neha Hiremath, who was studying MCA in BVB College, was stabbed to death by Faiza Kondikoppa, a resident of Savadatti in Belagavi district and a BCA student in the same college. He has been arrested, police said.
