Veteran leader Eshwarappa filed his nomination in a pompous procession in the presence of thousands of supporters.

Despite BJP's objection, Eshwarappa used posters, banners and photographs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the procession.

Later, Eshwarappa said that he had filed his nomination as an independent candidate and around 15,000 to 20,000 supporters from all the eight assembly constituencies of Shivamogga Lok Sabha seat had come out to support him.

“From today, till the polling day, our workers will campaign door-to-door and explain why injustice was done to loyal BJP workers like me, they will also explain how the party is suffering losses at the hands of the father and others. " ,” Eshwarappa said, indirectly targeting former chief minister, B Yediyurappa, and his son, state BJP president BY Vijayendra.

“I am confident that the voters of Shivamogga will elect me. Eshwarappa said, after the elections there will be changes in the party and the process of cleansing will begin in the BJP.

Yediyurappa's son BY Raghavendra is the BJP candidate from Shivamogga seat.

Wife of Kannada superstar Dr. Shivarajkumar and late S. Bangarappa's daughter Geeta Shivarajkumar is the Congress candidate from this seat. She is the sister of Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa.

Raghavendra had defeated Madhu Bangarappa who contested from JDU.
ticket in the 2019 general elections by a margin of 2.23 lakh votes. In the 2019 by-election, Madhu Bangarappa lost to Raghavendra by 52,148 votes.

Raghavendra had defeated late S Bangarappa by 52,893 votes in the 2009 general elections.

Given this history, a close contest is expected on the high profile Shivamog seat and now, with Eshwarappa entering the fray, the contest will become even tougher.
