Gurugram: A 17-year-old Kanwariya was killed and two were seriously injured when a speeding truck hit his motorcycle here on Wednesday, following which Kanwariyas started protesting and protesting on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway. Blocked. Police said.

The protesters demanded compensation for the deceased and later agreed to open the road when administrative officials assured them of compensation.

The truck driver left his vehicle and ran away from the spot but was later arrested. He said that an FIR has been registered against the driver at Khedki Daula police station.

Police said the incident occurred around 2.50 am on Wednesday when the Kanwariya, identified as Hemant Meena, was going to Kotputli in Rajasthan with other Kanwariyas.

A senior police officer said Meena died while two other Kanwariyas from her village, Abhishek Meena and Yogesh Kumawat, were seriously injured when a speeding truck hit their motorcycle from behind. Hemant died on the spot.

He said that soon after this, other Kanwariyas gathered at the spot and protested and blocked both sides of the Delhi-Jaipur highway.

After receiving the information, senior police officers and SDM reached the spot.

The protesters demanded a government job and compensation of Rs 50 lakh for the victim's family and free treatment for the injured. The SDM assured them of conveying their demands to the government, only then they agreed to open the road at around 6 in the morning.

"An FIR has been registered and the driver of the truck has been arrested. The truck driver has been identified as Kuldeep (27), a resident of Badshahpura village in Agra district of Uttar Pradesh," Gurugram Police spokesperson said.
