Bengaluru, Popular Kannada actress, television presenter and former radio jockey Aparna Vastare died on Thursday night, sources close to her said.

Her husband Nagraj Vastare said that 57-year-old Vastare was suffering from lung cancer for the last two years.

Known for her work as a presenter on DD Chandana and anchoring several government programs and events, she had a strong fan base due to her accurate pronunciation in Kannada.

In 1998, he created a record by presenting the show continuously for eight hours as part of Diwali celebrations.

She made her cinematic debut in 1984 with Puttanna Kanagal's last film 'Masanada Hoovu' and acted in several Kannada TV shows.

Vastare was also the voice behind the announcements of the Bengaluru Metro.

She appeared in the Kannada reality television show Bigg Boss and her role as 'Varalakshmi' in the popular comedy show 'Maaja Talkies' was appreciated by the people.

Many film, television, literary and political personalities, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, condoled Vastare's demise.

"Saddened to hear the demise of actress and renowned presenter Aparna. A versatile talent, who was a household name in the state by presenting beautifully in the Kannada language on programs on leading Kannada channels and at government functions, has left us. Very soon,” Siddaramaiah posted on X.
