Kallakurichi (Tamil Nadu) [India], The bodies of people who died after drinking illicit liquor and were buried without postmortem in Tamil Nadu's Kallakurichi were exhumed on Sunday to confirm that they had consumed spurious liquor to provide ex-gratia.

The Kallakurichi administration along with a team of doctors were seen taking out the bodies of those who died after consuming illicit liquor from the graves.

According to officials, a total of 216 patients were admitted to four hospitals in Tamil Nadu after consuming illicit liquor, out of which 56 have died.

Earlier today, the death toll in the Tamil Nadu spurious liquor tragedy rose to 56, according to district administration reports.

According to information shared by the District Collectorate, Kallakurichi, a total of 216 patients were admitted to four hospitals in Tamil Nadu after consuming illicit liquor.

At Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) in Puducherry, 17 patients are alive and three have been declared dead, while at Villupuram Medical College, four are alive and four have been declared dead.

The highest number of deaths occurred at Kallakurichi Medical College, where 31 people have died and 108 are alive.

30 people are alive in Salem Medical College, while 18 are reported dead.

According to official figures, "There are 160 people who were admitted to the above hospitals and 55 have died."

152 male patients are alive in the incident, while 51 have died.
