New Delhi: Congress on Friday slammed the government's decision to declare June 25, the day the Emergency was declared in 1975, as 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas' as another "headline-grabbing exercise in hypocrisy" by the Prime Minister. Narendra Modi.

Criticizing the decision, the opposition party also said that from now on, every year on November 8, the day demonetisation was announced in 2016, the people of India will celebrate 'Aajivika Hatya Diwas' and a notification in the bulletin. issued soon.

The Congress reaction came after Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that the government had decided to celebrate June 25 as 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas' to commemorate the "enormous contributions" of those who endured inhuman pain during that period.

Congress General Secretary (Communications Officer) Jairam Ramesh said: "Another headline-grabbing exercise in hypocrisy by the non-biological Prime Minister who had imposed an undeclared emergency for ten long years before the people of the India will hand him a decisive personal decision, political and moral defeat on June 4, 2024, which will go down in history as Modi Mukti Diwas."

"This is a non-biological Prime Minister who has subjected the Constitution of India and its principles, values ​​and institutions to systematic attack," Ramesh said in X.

Later, Ramesh also shared the video of Prime Minister Modi's speech on November 8, 2016, when he announced demonetisation.

A notification released on Friday by the Union Home Ministry said the emergency was declared on June 25, 1975, following which there was "gross abuse of power by the government of the time and the people of India were subjected to excesses and atrocities".

The people of India have unwavering faith in the Constitution and the power of their resilient democracy, he said.

"Therefore, the Government of India declares June 25 as 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas' to pay homage to all those who suffered and fought against the gross abuse of power during the Emergency period and to re-engage the people of India to not in any way support such abuses in future.
