The wicketkeeper-batsman did not attend Monday's training session and will likely not be available for the series decider. It is unclear whether he will join the team for the fourth and final match of the ongoing series at the Oval or go straight to the Caribbean tour for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Buttler had earlier mentioned that he would definitely be there for the birth of his child, even if it meant missing a game or two in the World Cup.

England vice-captain Moeen Ali will take charge of the team during Buttler's absence from the team and he spoke about the captaincy situation.

"Obviously if it happens, it's a big honor – as it always is," Moi said. "I'll be fine. Nothing much will change: it's just that what he's doing is taking him in his hand and then taking him in his hand when he comes back."

"Hopefully, the baby will arrive at the right time, so he won't miss too many games. For me, just whatever will happen, will happen. To be honest with you, [deputizing] is not really difficult, because we talk often. "Me and Jos. We talk about other things, the team and all that. We are on the same page anyway," SAI vice-captain Moeen Ali said while speaking to reporters.

Buttler was named man of the match in the second T20I for his brilliant innings of 84 runs off 51 balls, which helped his team win and take a 1–0 lead in the series despite the first game being cancelled.
