New Delhi, Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) organized a protest at the Jantar Mantar here on Wednesday against the NEET-UG fiasco.

The students demanded scrapping of NTA and resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in the qualifying medical examination.

Dozens of students belonging to different groups, including the Left-backed Indian Students Association (AlSA) and Delhi University's Krantikari Yuva Sangathan, participated in the protest.

The students carried posters and banners with slogans like "Dharmendra Pradhan istifa do (Dharmendra Pradhan resign)" and "Scrap NTA" written on them.

They also demanded a new exam for NEET-UG exam and an end to centralization of exams.

The JNUSU has been demanding scrapping of the entrance exams conducted by the NTA to the doctoral programs of Jawaharlal University. Several exams conducted by the agency, including UGC-NET and NET PG, were canceled after the "integrity" of the exams was compromised.

Earlier this week, the student body submitted a memorandum to vice-chancellor Santishree D Pandit to reinstate the varsity's old JNU Entrance Examination (JNUEE) and remove Common University Entrance Test (CUET) scores for admissions Ph.D.

Meanwhile, amid the furor, the Education Ministry sacked National Testing Agency director general Subodh Singh and handed over the probe into alleged irregularities in the medical entrance examination to the CBI.

It has also set up a seven-member panel headed by former ISRO chief K Radhakrishnan to review the functioning of the NTA and recommend reforms in exams.

The NEET-UG exam was conducted on May 5 at 4,750 centers and around 24 lakh candidates appeared. The results were expected to be declared on June 14, but were announced on June 4.
