Wagh said the JNPA has held several talks with the villagers and attempted to address various concerns regarding damage to the environment, decline in fishing or land acquisition.

Wagh said that there is no proposal for a crude oil refinery, these are just rumours.

“Let me tell you, there is no proposal to import crude oil, so there is no question of a refinery,” he said.

On concerns over land acquisition and displacement, Wagh said not even an inch of land would be acquired for the port project.

He said, "Therefore there is no question of displacement." There is no doubt left in this particular aspect.

The port infrastructure consists of nine container terminals, each 1 km in length, four multipurpose berths, four liquid cargo berths, one ro-ro berth, one coastal cargo berth and one coast guard berth. The project involves reclamation of 1,448 hectares in offshore areas and construction of 10.4 km of breakwaters, container/cargo storage areas.

On the concern of flood due to this big project, Wagh said that JNPA is going inside by 6 km.

"Detailed scientific studies have been conducted which clearly show that since it is an offshore project, the development of the project will not cause flooding," he said.

On the concern about the livelihood of fishermen, Wagh accepted that this is a very important aspect.

"Except the 30 sq km area, fishermen can do fishing everywhere. If fishermen need to relocate from the 30 sq km area, we will provide compensation as per the policy of the Government of Maharashtra. However, we will get all the clearances This does not mean that we will not talk to the fishermen and villagers.
