New Delhi, Jindal Advanced Materials said it aims to increase its FRP rebar production capacity five-fold to 1 lakh metric tonnes by the next financial year, aiming to become a leading player in the sector.

The company said in a statement on Monday that its current production capacity from two plants at Pathredi and Hisar in Haryana is about 18,000 tonnes.

“Jindal Advanced Materials (JAM) is set to become the world's largest FRP rebar producer. We plan to reach a total production capacity of 1,00,000 MT per annum by the end of FY26.

“We are setting up a new plant for FRP (fibre-reinforced polymer) rebar on 6 acres of land at Pathreddy, which we have already acquired. We also announced our plan to set up a carbon fiber plant at Trichy, Tamil Nadu It was announced without sharing any financial details.

With the expansion, the company is targeting sectors like railways, infrastructure, sheet molding compounds and carbon fibre.

FRP rebar is 35 percent cost effective and heat resistant as compared to steel rebar. The object is a major component of landmark construction projects such as the Burj Khalifa, the Kanagawa Expressway (Japan) and various marina piers and subway systems. These are three times lighter than steel.

In January, JAM had signed an MoU with the Tamil Nadu government to set up a new manufacturing plant at a strategic investment of about Rs 1,000 crore.

JAM, a part of the US$38 billion OP Jindal Group, is a leading manufacturer of composite materials such as FRP rebar, carbon fiber and cable trays.
