Ranchi: The scorching heat wave continued to lash various parts of Jharkhand on Wednesday with Daltonganj recording a maximum temperature of 45.6 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert of extreme heat in the north-west and south-east parts of Jharkhand till June 14.

"Red alert of severe heatwave has been issued for parts of Garhwa, Palamu, Seraikela-Kharsawan, East and West Singhbhum till June 14. Orange alert of severe heatwave has been issued for parts of Chatra and Latehar. Others Parts may experience heatwave like conditions,” said Abhishek Anand, officer in-charge of Ranchi Meteorological Centre.

While heat wave occurred in Chatra, Latehar, Ranchi and Ramgarh districts on Wednesday, severe heat wave occurred in parts of Garhwa, Palamu, Seraikela-Kharsawan, East Singhbhum and West Singhbhum districts.

On Wednesday, the maximum temperature in Daltonganj was 45.6 degrees Celsius, 6.4 degrees above normal, while the maximum temperature in Jamshedpur city was 44 degrees Celsius, 6.9 degrees Celsius above normal.

Jharkhand's capital Ranchi, once the summer capital of undivided Bihar, recorded a temperature of 40.2 degrees Celsius, which is 4.8 degrees above normal.

Garhwa and Seraikela recorded temperatures of 45.3 degrees Celsius and 44.1 degrees Celsius respectively, while it was 43.7 degrees Celsius in Ramgarh, 43.1 degrees Celsius in Bokaro and 42.2 degrees Celsius in Baharagora and Latehar.

In view of the scorching heat in the state, all schools in Jharkhand have been closed till June 15.

An order issued by the Department of School Education and Literacy on Tuesday said that in view of the extreme heat and heat wave conditions in the state, all schools, including private ones, running in the state will remain closed from June 12 to June 15.
