Ranchi, A crucial meeting of INDIA bloc legislators began here on Wednesday, amid speculation about a change of guard in the state, alliance MLAs said.

The meeting was called by former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who is also the executive president of the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).

Soren was released from jail on June 28 after nearly five months, when the high court granted him bail in a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam.

"A change of guard in the state is possible... This meeting is crucial. All legislators of the ruling alliance met here at 11 am," a party source said.

The meeting is underway and the outcome is not yet known.

The speculation was fueled by Chief Minister Champai Soren's sudden cancellation of all important programmes, including distribution of appointment letters to 1,500 selected teachers on Wednesday.

Also on Tuesday, all public programs of Champai Soren, who had taken oath as the 12th CM of Jharkhand on February 2 following the arrest of Hemant Soren, were cancelled.

"Our party asked us to attend a meeting of INDIA block legislators on Wednesday in view of the Jharkhand assembly elections," he told him.

The legislator said the meeting is important as the alliance needs to define its strategy for the elections to be held later this year.

Jharkhand Congress in-charge Ghulam Ahmad Mir and state president Rajesh Thakur are also attending the meeting.

JMM spokesperson Manoj Pandey said the agenda of the meeting is "political developments" in the state.

Meanwhile, BJP MP Nishkant Dubey posted on inspired by Bhagwan Birsa Munda and stood up. against the corrupt Hemant Soren ji."

Besides the CM, Hemant Soren's brother and minister Basant Soren and his wife Kalpana Soren will also attend the meeting.

Kalpana was recently elected as MLA from Gandey, winning the bypoll after the seat fell vacant following the resignation of JMM MLA Sarfaraz Ahmad.

In his first public rally after coming out of jail, Hemant Soren claimed that the BJP plans to advance the assembly elections in Jharkhand.

He also declared a “rebellion” against “feudal forces”, claiming that the opposition INDIA bloc would expel the BJP from the entire country.
