Ranchi: The Jharkhand Cabinet on Friday approved a proposal to increase the eligibility for free electricity for domestic consumers from 125 units per month to 200 units per month, an official said.

Briefing the press, Cabinet Secretary Vandana Dadel said that the government will bear an additional burden of about Rs 21.7 crore per month for this.

He said this increase in eligibility will benefit approximately 41.4 lakh consumers.

40 proposals were approved in the cabinet meeting. Important schemes also include a special compensation scheme for state police and central forces personnel. Under the scheme, the family of the security personnel killed in the encounter will get Rs 60 lakh as compensation. In case of injury, the state government will bear the cost of treatment.

The Cabinet also approved the establishment of Jharkhand State Faculty Development Academy for the implementation of the National Education Policy. The Cabinet also approved the CM Fellowship Scheme for Academic Excellence.

It also approved the Chief Minister's Hospital Movement and Maintenance Scheme, under which funds will be given to state-run hospitals every year for maintenance.
