Tumakuru (Karnataka), JD(S) on Tuesday approached the Election Commission over alleged security lapse at an event presided over by former Prime Minister and party patron HD Deve Gowda and demanded suspension of the police officers responsible for it.

In a letter to the returning officer of Tumakuru, the party said, a meeting of leaders was organized with the permission of the Election Commission by the BJP and JD(S) under the leadership of Deve Gowda at the Kunchitiga community building here on April 1. Support of V Somanna (BJP).

Somanna is contesting from Tumakuru constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

"The police officials present at the meeting venue did not take security measures and allowed the women supporting the Congress inside the hall. The women managed to reach the stage where Deve Gowda was present without any questioning or investigation as the police were unable to do their job. Failed,” the party alleged.

JD(S) alleged that Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress chief D Shivakumar and Minister Rajanna were behind the incident.

It urged the Election Commission to take action against "police officers" responsible for the security lapse and demanded their suspension.

The party has also demanded that whenever such meetings are held in the state in the coming days, proper security arrangements should be made.
