New York: The great Anil Kumble believes that the fast bowler will have to play a major role if India has to win the T20 World Cup.

In the much-awaited match here on Sunday, Bumrah (3/14) produced a match-winning performance to lead India to a thrilling six-run win over traditional rivals Pakistan.

Pakistan's innings ended at 113 for seven in 20 overs in reply to India's 119 all out on the two-speed track at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium as the impressive Bumrah and Hardik Pandya (2/2) 24)'s quick combination led India to victory. Coming back from the dead with sharp spells.

“We saw that in the 15th over he got the wicket (of Mohammad Rizwan), and then in the 19th over, when you know if he had hit some boundaries in that over, 10 runs, 12 runs were scored in the last over.Possible, Kumble said on ESPN Cricinfo.

"But once it gets to 18 runs, 19 runs, on a surface like this, it is impossible (for the tail-enders) to come and get those runs. So, if India wins this tournament, Jasprit Bumrah, he will do that. "I have to play a major role," Kumble said.

While Hardik made good use of the short ball, Bumrah dismissed a well-set Rizwan in the 15th over and Iftikhar Ahmed in the 19th over, in which just three runs were scored. The equation came down to 18 runs needed off the last six balls and Arshdeep Singh held his composure to ensure another famous victory for India over Pakistan on the world stage.

Kumble was full of praise for Bumrah and described him as the team's No. 1 player in terms of selection regardless of the formats and nature of the surface.

"Jasprit Bumrah should be number one in your team list. Forget about the format, Jasprit Bumrah is your number one. Yes, it is a pitch where it was not easy for the bowlers but the variations and the kind of pressure he puts on It's on the batsmen..." Kumble said."Knowing that it's not going to be easy, forget the surface, any surface, we've seen throughout his career, it's not easy. Any batsman coming in front of Bumrah knows it's going to be tough , and on a surface like this, it just creates pressure,'' he said.
